Resolution 2025-10 – Establishing the Ad Hoc Historical Committee of the Borough of Rutledge

RUTLEDGE BOROUGH

DELAWARE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA

RESOLUTION No. 2025-10

Resolution Establishing the Ad Hoc Historical Committee of the Borough of Rutledge

WHEREAS, the Borough of Rutledge, Pennsylvania (the “Borough”) has outlined in the Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan of 2007 the need for a historical body and reiterated this need in its 2024 amendments to the Borough’s Comprehensive Plan; and

WHEREAS, there exists no official body to examine, explore, and advise the Borough Council on matters related to historical preservation; and

WHEREAS, there is a rich history of the Borough that can be used to connect residents to the past, create community in the present, and help to inform and shape the future of the Borough; and 

WHEREAS, the residents of the Borough have indicated and demonstrated their strong interest in working together to capture, preserve, and share this history; and 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Borough Council of the Borough of Rutledge does hereby establish an Ad Hoc Historical Committee for the Borough of Rutledge that will:

  • Create a plan to assess current historical holdings within the Borough and options for their preservation; and
  • Organize and execute events for gathering and sharing the history of the Borough; and
  • Develop a plan for Council consideration and approval to connect the history of the Borough to the upcoming Semiquincentennial of the our country in 2026; and
  • Develop a plan for Council consideration to extend the work of the Ad Hoc Historical Committee.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ad Hoc Historical Committee will operate within the following parameters:

  • The Committee will begin its work no later than 60 days following the adoption of this resolution; and
  • The Committee will cease its work on 12/31/2026; and
  • The Committee will be comprised of five members:
    • Four members will be non-elected members of the Borough selected and approved by Council affirmation; and
    • One member will be appointed by the Borough Council from currently serving Borough Council members;
  • Appointed Committee members will establish a regular meeting schedule that is accessible to the public; and
  • Appointed Committee members will select among themselves a Committee Chair and Vice-Chair.
