Please be advised, the Council of the Borough of Rutledge shall hold a SPECIAL PUBLIC MEETING on SEPTEMBER 23rd, 2014 at 7:30 PM in the Rutledge Borough Hall for public comment in connection with zoning issues involving the Morton-Rutledge Fire Company’s Fire Station located at 14 Sylvan Avenue.
The Fire Station is situated within the Residential District of the Borough of Rutledge. Pursuant to Section 27-302 of the Code of Ordinances of the Borough of Rutledge, the use of a building within the Residential District is limited, to include, in sum: one, a single family home; two, a family-based community residence; three, a park/playground; and four, a municipal building or similar municipal use, to include a fire station.
The Morton-Rutledge Fire Company has been renting the Fire Station out to local cheerleading organizations for use as a practice facility as the Fire Company’s trucks and equipment have since been relocated to the Morton Fire Station. Such use does not confirm with Section 27-302, as listed above.
The Borough of Rutledge is requesting public comment/feedback in regards to the above use of the Fire Station. Council is considering all options with regard to this issue, to include strict enforcement of the zoning ordinance and a zoning amendment. The Borough of Rutledge wishes to gauge the public’s opinion as it moves forward with its decision concerning the use of the Fire Station and the ramifications of an amendment to the zoning regulations.
